Rental Conditions

Last updated : 17 July 2026

These conditions frame bookings made via RentCar.mu. The rental is concluded with the partner agency; its specific conditions and contract prevail for matters specific to each vehicle.

1. Booking

A booking is confirmed as soon as it is validated online; payment is made to the agency at vehicle pick-up, unless online payment is offered. A summary shows the vehicle, period, pick-up and return locations, price and deposit.

2. Driver and documents

The driver must be at least 21 and hold a valid driving licence held for at least one year. An international permit is recommended for non-Latin licences. ID is required at the counter.

A young-driver surcharge may apply to drivers aged 21 to 24. Only persons named in the contract may drive.

3. Price, add-ons and fees

The price covers the vehicle rental for the chosen period. Paid add-ons (child seat, GPS, additional driver, airport delivery, prepaid fuel), a possible one-way fee (different return location) and an optional collision damage waiver may be added and are shown before you confirm the booking.

Driving is on the left in Mauritius.

4. Deposit and collision damage waiver

A deposit is held by bank pre-authorisation. It is released after the vehicle is returned, unless damage, fines, missing fuel or lateness are recorded. The collision damage waiver (CDW), when taken, reduces the amount payable by the customer in case of damage, within the limits set by the agency.

5. Vehicle inspection

A joint inspection (time-stamped photos, readings, signatures) is carried out at pick-up and return. It is authoritative for assessing any new damage.

6. Cancellation and changes

Cancellation and change conditions are specific to each agency and shown at booking. Unless stated otherwise, online cancellation may be limited to a period before pick-up; beyond that, contact the agency.

7. Customer obligations

The customer agrees to use the vehicle with care, comply with Mauritian road rules, not sub-let the vehicle, and return it in the agreed condition and fuel level. Fines and offences committed during the rental remain the customer's responsibility.

8. Insurance and liability

The vehicle is covered by the agency's insurance under the terms of its policy. Damage not covered (negligence, drink-driving, unauthorised off-road use, etc.) remains the customer's responsibility.

9. Complaints

Any complaint may be sent to the relevant agency and, failing resolution, to [email protected]. This document does not deprive the consumer of any mandatory rights under Mauritian law.
